Wander the Wheel: June | The Gilt Hour
A monthly nature-based folklore and cultural publication for curious families
June goes into the gold.
Wander the Wheel is a monthly publication for families who want to move through the year with intention, curiosity, and a deep love for the stories and traditions that connect us to the turning seasons. Each issue weaves together global folklore, art history, nature study, crafts, recipes, rituals, and reflection into something you can read aloud at the kitchen table, take outside, and return to all month long.
This June issue follows the firefly. It stands at Qorikancha with arms outstretched toward the sun. It beats drums on the Miluo River for a poet who chose his principles over his life, jumps the Kupala Night bonfire, watches the Midsommar pole go up in the long Scandinavian light, and closes at a midsummer table set outside as the first firefly blinks on in the grass at the field's edge.
Inside you will find:
A main story narrated by a single firefly who carries the gold of the season in its own body, eight global folklore traditions from Inti Raymi to Galungan, a nature study that moves through one long June day from the Strawberry Moon setting to the fireflies rising again, twelve art history spotlights tracing gold from ancient Egypt to Gustav Klimt, six crafts anchored to moments in the day, six recipes including honey and herb grilled chicken with grilled peaches and rose petal jam on solstice bread, shadow work journal prompts for every age, and a three-part closing ritual for the longest evening of the year.
The hearth question at the center of it all: what does the longest light reveal?
